Comelec, DILG join candidates in Unity Walk for peaceful 2019 polls


Around 6,000 people joined the Unity Walk in Quezon City on Sunday morning to call for peaceful midterm elections in May 2019, according to a report of Olan Bola on Super Radyo dzBB.

 

 

 

 

The Commission on Elections, Department of the Interior and Local Government, National Police Commission, Department of Justice, and the Department of Education were among the government agencies who participated in the event held at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

 

 

Aside from the Unity Walk, the event also included an interfaith prayer and the signing of peace covenant for the midterm elections.

The parade started from the Sunken Garden at the Quezon City Hall and proceeded to the Quezon Memorial Circle for the prayer rally and the covenant signing.

In Kidapawan City in Cotabato, meanwhile, candidates for local positions signed their names on a Unity Pledge tarpaulin prepared by the Comelec.

Local bets running in the May 2019 polls in Mlang, Cotabato, on the other hand, also signed the Unity Pledge and released white balloons during the Unity Walk.

In Maguindanao, the PNP Police Regional Office (PRO) Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) headed by Superintendent Graciano Mijares collaborated with Comelec Regional Election Director Atty. Ray Sumalipao for the Unity Walk, Prayer Rally and Peace Covenant Signing.

The event was held Sunday morning at the PRO ARMM Grandstand in Camp BGen Salipada K. Pendatun in Parang, Maguindanao.

Multi-sectoral stakeholders, leaders and personnel of concerned government agencies, religious groups, members of academe, students of St. Benedict College of Maguindanao and SAL Foundation, members of civic and non-government organizations, and candidates were among those who participated and joined the 3.5-kilometer Unity Walk.
