DSWD readies over P2.4B to aid residents threatened by TD Amang


Over P2.4 billion has been readied for rescue materials and relief assistance to residents in areas that will be affected by Tropical Depression Amang.

Citing information from the Department of Social Welfare  and Development, Super Radyo dzBB's Jonathan Andal also said the Department of the Interior and Local Government has alerted LGUs on Amang's path.

DILG has activated its "OPLAN Listo" to respond to emergencies that may arise due to the weather disturbance.

State weather bureau PAGASA said early Sunday morning that at 4 a.m., Amang was 460 kilometers east of Surigao del Sur's Hinatuan town, with winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 60 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 was raised over:

  •     southern portion of Eastern Samar,
  •     southern portion of Samar,
  •     Biliran,
  •     Leyte,
  •     Southern Leyte,
  •     eastern Bohol,
  •     northern Cebu,
  •     Agusan del Sur,
  •     Agusan del Norte,
  •     Surigao del Sur,
  •     Surigao del Norte,
  •     the Dinagat Islands, and
  •     Camiguin.

PAGASA also expected to raise Signal 1 over Eastern Samar and Samar later in the morning.

Given Amang's strength and course, moderate to heavy rain could be expected over southern Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon; and over the Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Bicol Regions.

Conditions over the seaboards of areas under Signal 1; the northern seaboard of northern Luzon; and eastern seaboards of Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, dangerous for small sea craft and fisher folk.

Amang was expected to make landfall somewhere between the Surigao del Norte mainland an Siargao Islands by Sunday afternoon or evening. — LBG, GMA News
