3 killed, at least 11 hurt in Marikina road mishap
Three died, and at least 11 others were hurt in vehicular accident along Marcos Highway near A. Bonifacio Avenue, in Barangka village in Marikina City on Sunday, Supt. Sotero Ramos, city chief of police told radio dzBB past 6 p.m. Ramos said the casualties were on a roadside attending a funeral procession, when the driver of a white Suzuki Samurai hit the victims from their back. The driver, identified as Gerardo Fernando of Antipolo City, is now under police custody. He said that initially, 13 were hurt and one was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital. But at about 5 p.m., the fatalities rose to three. The police chief initially identified the fatalities as Joey Quillar, Susana Montefalcon or Rodriguez, and Jay Carmelo. Ramos said Carmelo was the one who was pronounced dead on arrival at the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center along Sumulong Highway in Marikina City. Ramos said Orlando Santos, driver of the funeral service car, was among those hurt in the incident. Santos was brought to the Quirino Labor Hospital along Katipunan Road in Quezon City. The other 12 victims were brought to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center. Ramos said a three-year-old child was among those injured. Fernando, a messenger of MCD Livestock, was drunk and slept while he was on the road, according to reports received by Ramos. The driver later on told Ramos that he joined a drinking spree with friends in Antipolo before the incident occurred. He was supposed to meet his employer in New Manila, Quezon City - GMAnews.TV
