Australia issues advisory vs. measles in PHL

The Australian government has cautioned its citizens against measles, according to a report on Unang Balita.

The advisory was issued after a child, coming from the Philippines, entered Perth.

The National Epidemiology Bureau of the Department of Health reported that the child may have been clear of the disease when he/she left the Philippines last January 28 and that the symptoms of measles manifested upon reaching Australia.

Some of the symptoms of measles include coughing, swelling of the throat and eyes. This is followed by the appearance of rashes on the arms and hands that spread to the rest of the body.

The patient may also have fever.

Measles may lead to fatal complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis or inflammation of the brain. — BAP, GMA News
