Kissing a Kapampangan quickest way to learn the language, says admin bet Bato
The best way to learn Kapampangan, according to administration senatorial candidate Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, is to kiss a kapampangan.
The thing is, he did not have the chance and until now does not know how to speak the language.
"Sabi nila, ang pinakamabilis daw na paraan para matuto ka ng salitang kapampangan ay makipag-lips to lips ka lagi ng kapampangan para mabilis yung pag-transfer ng kaalaman," Dela Rosa said during the launch of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago campaign in Clark, Pampanga.
Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the representative of the second district of Pampanga, was onstage when Dela Rosa made the remark about kissing those who hail from Pampanga.
Also present at the political event was Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda.
Dela Rosa apologized to the crowd because he could not greet them in kapampangan.
He said he tried to learn the kapampangan as he wooed a woman from Pampanga when he was a cadet at the Philippine Military Academy.
"Noong ako ay kadete sa PMA, may nililigawan ako diyan sa Mabalacat, Pampanga.... Kaso binasted ako. Wala, hindi ako natuto [ng kapampangan]," Dela Rosa said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Gabriela Woman's Party Representative Arlene Brosas slammed the former PNP chief for his remark, saying that the "macho" and "misogynist" statement is affront to women especially those who hail from Pampanga.
"Sa mga pinagsasabi niya, pinakikita niyang hindi nga talaga siya natuto at tumanda siya ng walang pinagkatandaan. Manang mana ang kabastusan sa amo niya," Brosas said.
"Hindi dapat iboto ang mga gaya niyang lantarang ibinibida ang kabastusan," she added.
The campaign kick-off, held in San Fernando City in Pampanga was led by presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, the chairperson of the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
The party is endorsing 13 senatorial candidates in the 2019 polls. —NB, GMA News
