Duterte appoints ex-Army official as DSWD undersecretary

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed another retired military official to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), according to documents released by Malacañang on Monday.

Duterte named retired Major General Rene Glen Paje as DSWD undersecretary on February 15. He joins Secretary Rolando Bautista and Undersecretary Felicisimo Budiongan, two former military men, in the department.

Paje had served as Armed Forces deputy chief of staff for civil military operations and is a former commander of the First Scout Ranger Regiment who figured in the Marawi siege in 2017.

The President has repeatedly defended his decision of appointing former military and police officials to government posts, saying they follow orders and get job done fast. —LDF, GMA News
