Imee Marcos repeatedly dodges questions on UP Law graduation

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos has on at least two occasions on the campaign trail evaded questions on her supposed graduation from the University of the Philippines College of Law.

According to Sandra Aguinaldo's report on "24 Oras", Imee during a campaign sortie in Laguna appeared to wave away reporters after hearing the request for comment on UP and on Princeton University in the US.

On Monday in Bulacan, Imee walked away from reporters who dogged her with questions on the schools she supposedly attended particularly UP.

Imee recently posted on Facebook pictures of her supposed graduation from UP Law at the Meralco Theater in 1983.

One of the pictures showed then President Ferdinand Marcos and then First Lady Imelda Macos in attendance.

Imee said the late dictator and the incumbent Ilocos Norte congresswoman even pinned her cum laude medal.

However, UP executive vice president Dr. Teodoro Herbosa said the UP registrar had no record of Imee graduating from UP. It had no record of her being given any honor or academic distinction.

The yearbook on those who graduated from UP in 1983 also had nothing on Imee.

What the UP records showed were that of Imee taking non-degree courses at the College of Arts and Sciences from 1976 to 1977.

As for her attendance at the UP Law, the records showed Imee took up courses at the college from the first semester of 1979 until the second semester of 1983.

A book on the college's Class of 1983 on occasion of their 25th anniversary in 2008 had a write-up on Imee.

The article said she received academic honors and distinctions abroad and in the Philippines but the book didn't include her in the list of the class' top 30 students. —NB, GMA News
