PNP: 2,473 people nabbed in ‘focused’ police ops for 2019 midterm polls


A total of 2,473 individuals have been nabbed in police operations conducted in relation to the May midterm elections, data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed on Friday.

According to the PNP, a total of 277,296 police operations were conducted from January 13 to March 7.

Of the total number of persons arrested, 211 were nabbed through checkpoints, 474 through search warrants, 27 through warrants of arrest, 1,355 through police patrol response and 406 through police operation plans.

The arrested persons were classified as follows:

  • 2,329 civilians,
  • 24 PNP personnel,
  • 3 Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel,
  • 39 elected officials,
  • 6 personnel from other law enforcement agencies,
  • 2 Bureau of Jail Management and Penology personnel,
  • 45 security guards,
  • 2 civilian active auxiliary,
  • 1 foreign national,
  • 20 members of threat groups, and
  • 2 members of private armed groups

Meanwhile, a total of 2,039 firearms were confiscated by authorities.

Police also seized a total 16,379 other deadly weapons which include firearms replica (76), bladed weapons (819), grenade (127), other explosives and ammunition (412). — RSJ, GMA News
