Pope appoints new Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan

Pope Francis appointed on Monday Fr. Fidelis Layog as the new Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan.

Layog was a parish priest born in Dagupan City, who currently serves at the Our Lady of Purification Parish in Binmaley, Pangasinan.

He studied theology at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City and was ordained in 1996.

Layog also earned a Biblical Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas in Rome in 2003.

According to the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, the function of an auxiliary bishop is to assist in the governance of the local Church.

Fr. Elmer Mangalinao was previously at the helm of the said post before he was appointed as the Bishop of Bayombong in May 2018.

Layog will be assisting Archbishop Socrates Villegas in running the archdiocese. —LDF, GMA News
