Barangay kagawad linked to drugs killed, P2-M shabu seized in Sampaloc drug raid


An incumbent barangay official was killed while more than P2 million worth of shabu was seized during a drug raid in Sampaloc, Manila on Thursday.

Barangay kagawad Ronnie Labongray Jr., who was the target of the operation, was shot by the police  and rushed to the Ospital ng Sampaloc for treatment. He later died.

Personnel from the drug enforcement unit of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and Manila Police District (MPD) Station 4 conducted an operation against Labongray in Gerardo Street, Zone 55, Barangay 561 in Sampaloc through a search warrant.

Labongray was on the drug watch list of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and was also linked to policemen suspected of being involved in the drug trade.

One of the policemen, Police Corporal Jolly Aliangan, was detained at Manila City Jail while the other, Police Corporal Joel Padre Juan, died in a shooting incident in 2018.

Labongray was arrested in 2017 for drug-related activities.

The authorities have seized several plastic sachets of shabu weighing around 150 grams a street value of P1,020,000, and a .45 caliber gun with live ammunition from the crime scene.

During the operation against Labongray, the operatives also caught three persons engaged in a shabu session namely. They were identified as Ronelyn Labongray, Alfredo Joanino and Jeffrey Gallaron.

Seized from them were three big plastic sachets of shabu weighing 200 grams with a street value of P1,360,000. —Joviland Rita/NB, GMA News
