Probe sought on reported assassination plot vs. ex-Cabinet exec Evasco
The family of former Cabinet secretary Leoncio Evasco, Jr. has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe a reported assassination plot against the gubernatorial candidate in Bohol.
In a letter given on Monday, Evasco’s wife and children requested NBI Director Dante Gierran to assign a special team from the bureau’s central office to unmask the assassins and their contractors should the supposed plot be found true.
The letter said “persistent reports” of an assassination plot convinced Evasco to heed his family’s appeals for him to be provided security escorts during the campaign period.
The family patriarch quit the Cabinet secretary’s post last year to seek the Bohol governor’s seat under the Nationalist People’s Coalition-Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
“Considering that the political rivalry in Bohol is getting intense, there is no room for complacency,” the letter stated.
The Evasco family said friends and supporters had noticed “unmarked motorcycles occasionally running alongside the service vehicle of the gubernatorial candidate.” — Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/RSJ, GMA News
