Different styles of ‘ice cream in a bun’ to beat the summer heat

A bite of warm bread with the perfect cold and sweet taste of ice cream melting in your mouth. The ice cream in a bun has always been a part of every Filipino childhood memory during the summer.

In Unang Hirit's episode on Thursday, two business owners showed a different twist to this Filipino favorite summer treat.

Albert John Du from the Dough Creamery showed what he referred to as the modern ice cream in a bun such as the Spindle, and the Ice Dog.

Spindle is made of a dough cone and is fried quickly for 10 seconds to get that crispy and warm texture. Fillings such as blueberry or cheese can be put inside the cone before the cone is filled with ice cream.

Dough Creamery also has the Ice Dog where a hotdog sandwich is also flash fried and ice cream is put inside. These treats range only from P79 pesos to P99.

Maria Rada from White Cup Coffee and Milk Tea bar showcased the Ube  Ensaymada con halo-halo ice cream sandwich where the ensaymada with rich ube filling inside is grilled for two to three minutes before the ice cream is then added in between.

Aside from this, the store also offer Quezo de bola ensaymada and Con bacon and chocolate ice cream sandwich. Their products range only from 150 pesos to 170 pesos. —Kaela Malig/ MDM, GMA News
