American rape fugitive nabbed in Pampanga

An American rape suspect was arrested by operatives from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Fugitive Search Unit in Angeles City, Pampanga.

According to the BI, the operation against 57-year-old Carmen Daniel Perzechino Jr. was conducted on April 4 after the US Embassy in Manila coordinated with the BI regarding his presence in the country.

The suspect was a subject of an arrest warrant for allegedly kidnapping and raping a woman in Sterling, Alaska almost two decades ago.

"The crime was committed 18 years ago, but now he has been caught by our men, and will be sent back to his country to face trial," Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said.

Perzechino fled to the Philippines in February. He was placed under the custody of the immigration facility at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig while awaiting his deportation.

The suspect will be banned from re-entering the country, according to Morente.

"If he did that in the US, then there is a possibility that he might commit the same crime in the Philippines. Criminals like him ought to be barred from ever setting foot in our country," he said. — MDM, GMA News
