Rotating brownouts to be experienced in some Meralco service areas
Amid the power supply shortage being experienced in the Luzon grid, customers of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) should expect power interruptions on Friday.
"Your power supply may have been affected by our Manual Load Dropping (MLD) or rotational brownout due to insufficient operating reserve that may last for three hours," Meralco said in a Facebook post.
Areas affected by rotational brownouts are portions of the following:
- Bulacan— Plaridel, Malolos City, San Rafael, San Ildefonso, Pandi, Norzagaray, Doña Remedios Trinidad, Angat, Paombong, Hagonoy, Calumpit, Meycauayan, Santa Maria, Marilao, Bocaue, Pulilan, Baliuag, San Jose Del Monte City, Balagtas
- Metro Manila— Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Parañaque, Pasay, San Juan, Las Piñas, Valenzuela, Malabon, Navotas, Pasig, Taguig, Muntinlupa, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Makati
- Cavite— Imus, General Trias, Dasmariñas, Trece Martirez City, Tagaytay, Silang, Naic, Indang, Amadeo, Bacoor, Noveleta, Kawit, Cavite City, Tanza, Rosario, General Mariano Alvarez, Carmona
- Batangas— Batangas City, Talisay, San Pascual, Sto. Tomas
- Rizal— Taytay, Cainta, San Mateo

Meralco defines MLD as the process of cutting off power in areas served at a specific time due to power supply shortage.
Red and yellow alert statuses were raised over the Luzon grid due to the outages of several power plants.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said MLD or rotational brownouts may be implemented to maintain the integrity of the power system. — MDM/RSJ, GMA News
