Despite fewer in number, minority bloc to continue fiscalizing Senate —Drilon

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon assured the public on Tuesday that the opposition will continue to fiscalize the chamber amid their small number this 18th Congress.

“The people have spoken. I respect it. For the opposition, there maybe less in numbers now but we will continue to fiscalize in the Senate,” he said in a text message to reporters.

In the partial and unofficial count as of 9 46: a.m., no opposition candidate has breached the top 12 "winning circle." The closest, reelectionist Senator Bam Aquino of Liberal Party, was on the 14th place with 13,654,681 votes.

Aside from Drilon, the other members of the minority bloc in the next Congress are Senators Risa Hontiveros and Francis Pangilinan.

On the other hand, Senator Panfilo Lacson reminded the public that the senators are the people’s servants.

“When the dust has finally settled and all the winners have been officially proclaimed, let us bear in mind that we are all Filipinos who love democracy no matter the flaws and weaknesses,” he said in a Twitter post.

He said what is important is that the voice of the majority is respected without abandoning the responsibility to continue vigilance against abuses and wrongdoings of those given the mandate to serve.

“Remember, we may not be their masters, but definitely, they are our servants,” Lacson said. —KBK, GMA News
