Jiggy Manicad concedes defeat in 2019 Senate race

Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) senatorial bet and former broadcast journalist Jiggy Manicad on Tuesday conceded defeat in the 2019 elections.

"Ngayon po klaro na ang resulta… nais ko pong magpasalamat sa inyong lahat," Manicad said in his Facebook live video.

Based on latest partial and unofficial count, Manicad was at the 20th spot with over 6 million votes.

"Ganyan talaga ang eleksyon. Siyempre parang karera yan, may mananalo at matatalo," he said.

Manicad thanked all his supporters who volunteered during his campaign and voted for him during Election Day. He also thanked Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, HNP's campaign manager.

He also congratulated the winning candidates, especially his fellow candidates under HNP.

Manicad said that after the elections, Filipinos have some "homework" to do. He encouraged Filipinos to help each other for the country.

The former journalist suggested that he does not have any plans what to do next after the election. "Sa ngayon po, kung tinatanong niyo… anong  gagawin ko. Ang gagawin ko ho ay maglilinis ng bahay kasi three months ho akong  hindi na nakapaglilinis," he said. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
