Comelec sees completion of official senatorial count by end of week

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) expects to finish the canvassing of votes in the mid-term senatorial elections by the end of this week.

"We expect within the week matapos lahat pero 'yung formal proclamation baka hindi this week kasi siyempre may invitations pa, may seremonyas, ganyan," Comelec spokesman James Jimenez told reporters.

"But we will know the results very soon," James Jimenez told reporters.

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon earlier told CNN Philippines that the poll body might proclaim the winning candidates in the senatorial race by Monday.

At present, canvassed votes have been sourced from 34 Certificates of Canvass from 167 clustered precincts across the country and Philippine posts abroad.

Based on the poll body's data, a total of 83,904 local election returns out of the 85,769 (97.82 percent) have already been received.

In the overseas absentee voting,  782 out of the 1,771 have already been received by the Comelec. —NB/BM, GMA News
