Some Senate bets performed poorly in own bailiwicks
Some senatorial candidates did not emerge as hometown heroes in their respective bailiwicks in the recently-held elections, according to partial results from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) transparency servers.
Former senator Jinggoy Estrada, who is currently on the 15th spot in Senate race, failed to earn adequate votes to penetrate the Top 12 even in his hometown San Juan City.
Estrada placed 13th in San Juan City based on the unofficial result. Estrada served as San Juan City’s municipal mayor for three terms since 1992. Before being mayor, he sat as its vice-mayor.
On the contrary, his brother reelectionist senator JV Ejercito Estrada landed third. In the overall national unofficial results, Ejercito currently occupies 13th spot.
Even in his father Joseph Estrada's bailiwick in Manila, results showed that Jinggoy did not do well, ranking only 19th.
His father Estrada also failed to be reelected as mayor of the city after losing to Francisco Domagoso, publicly known as Isko Moreno.
Ejercito, meanwhile, managed to land on the 9th spot of Manila’s Senate election result.
Former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile performed less than expected in his bailiwick Cagayan after he only placed 11th in Senate race based on the province partial and unofficial result as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Enrile served as a district representative of Cagayan from 1992 to 1995.
Gary Alejano, who is on the 23rd spot in the Senate race based on the 4 p.m. partial and unofficial result, performed well in his hometown in Sipalay City where he topped the Senate race according to the partial unofficial result.
But for the Senate race in the entire province of Negros Occidental, Alejano landed at 18th place.
Alejano ran for mayor of Sipalay City in 2010 but lost. —LDF, GMA News
