VP Leni asks supporters to desist from name-calling amid 'frustrating' poll results

Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday appealed to supporters of the opposition to desist from name-calling amid the "frustration, disappointment and even anger" brought by the results of the recently concluded midterm elections.

“Let us not resort to name-calling, demeaning our fellow Filipinos that—at this most crucial time—are the ones we need to reach out to [and] connect with all the more,” Robredo wrote on Facebook.

As results of the elections trickle in, Robredo said it is not surprising that many of them feel “overwhelmed by frustration, disappointment, and even anger.”

“We have worked hard and fought against all odds for our motherland, and in the face of all that sacrifice and effort, the results of the elections and the numbers we are seeing so far are not easy to accept,” she said.

“But it is in these difficult moments when we must pass our biggest test. To be generous when we feel empty. To be hopeful when we feel lost. To be humble instead of looking for someone to blame,” Robredo added.

For the May 13 elections, Robredo campaigned for the opposition Senate slate Otso Diretso whose candidates have yet to penetrate the Top 12 winning circle based on partial and unofficial count from the Comelec's transparency service on Thursday morning.

While she understood that the results of the polls “are not easy to accept,” Robredo said the fight “is not yet over,” citing the many challenges expected ahead.

“[T]his is the time for us to show our greatest strengths, never to be clouded by our greatest fears,” she said.

Robredo has said that she was “realistic but optimistic” about the results of the race. —KBK, GMA News
