Duterte wants Canada trash to be returned soonest, not end of June — Panelo

President Rodrigo Duterte wants the trash to be returned to Canada the soonest possible time and not by the end of June, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Thursday.

Panelo made the statement after the Canadian government said their Minister of Environment and Climate Change has awarded a contract to bring the trash back to Ottawa to Bollore Logistics Canada

The Canadian government said the company will begin preparation for the shipping in the coming days and the removal of trash will be complete by the end of June.

“No. ‘Di ba sabi nila it might about take end of June pa, hindi papayag si Presidente dun,” Panelo said during the press briefing.

He said Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez said the trash will be sent out soon.

“The trash will be sent back the soonest. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang soonest, either this week or week after but definitely not the end of June. Ayaw natin ‘yun ang tagal masyado,” he said.

Malacañang earlier said the President has ordered government agencies to look for a private company that would ship the trash back to Canada. — RSJ, GMA News
