Henri Inting named new Supreme Court justice

Court of Appeals justice Henri Jean Paul Inting has been named the newest justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Monday.

Completing the 15-person tribunal, Inting, 61, has been appointed to the seat vacated by Lucas Bersamin when he was named Chief Justice last November, Guevarra confirmed.

Guevarra, who is also an ex-officio member of the Judicial and Bar Council, said that Inting's appointment papers have been signed but not yet released.

The Davao del Sur-born Inting took his oath as CA justice in 2012, prior to which he served as Quezon City Regional Trial Court judge. He had also been a municipal trial court judge, a public attorney, and a prosecutor.

A graduate of the Ateneo de Davao University, Inting was senior corporate attorney for the National Housing Authority Government Corporation in 1983 and supervising staff assistant in the Intermediate Appellate Court (now the CA) in 1984.

He is the brother of former CA justice and now-Commission on Elections commissioner Socorro Inting.

He is President Rodrigo Duterte's ninth appointee to the SC associate justice's post and the 11th so far when the count includes the appointments of Teresita Leonardo-De Castro and Bersamin as chief justice. — BM, GMA News
