Luzon grid under yellow, red alerts at certain hours on Friday, June 7


The Luzon power grid will be placed under yellow and red alerts status at certain hours this Friday, June 7.

In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said the yellow alert would take effect from 8 to 10 am, and 4pm to 10pm; and red alert from 10pm to 4pm.

Yellow alert refers to a condition in which the reserves are less than the capacity of the biggest plant online, which is 647 megawatts for Luzon, while red alert refers to a system condition in which there is zero ancillary services or a generation deficiency exists.

According to the DOE, the following power plants went on unplanned or forced outage:

  • SEM-Calaca Power Corp.  Calaca Unit 2: 300 MW
  • SMC Consolidated Power Corp. Limay Coal Unit 4: 150 MW
  • GNPower Mariveles Coal Plant Ltd. Co. Unit 1: 345 MW
  • SMC Consolidated Power Corp. Limay Coal Unit 1: 150 MW
  • AP Renewable Inc. Mak-Ban Geothermal Unit 1: 63 MW
  • AP Renewable Inc. Tiwi Geothermal Unit 1: 60 MW
  • South Luzon Thermal Energy Corp. Unit 2: 135 MW

The following plants were also derated or its capacity was reduced:

  • SMCCPC Limay Unit 2 derated to 20 MW from 150 MW
  • SLTEC Unit 1 derated to 40 MW from 150 MW
  • Angat Hydroelectric Power Plant Main Units 1-4 derated to 172 MW from 200 MW
  • First Gen Hydro Power Pantabangan Plant Units 1-2 derated to 31 MW from 120 MW
  • SN-Aboitiz Power Binga Hydroelectric Power Plant Units 1-4 derated to 66 MW from 136 MW
  • SN-Aboitiz Ambuklao Hydroelectric Power Plant Units 1-3 derated to 35 MW from 105 MW
  • CBK Power Kalayaan Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant Units 1-4 derated to 180 MW from 720 MW
  • Panasla Energy  Limay Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Unit A4 derated to 30 MW from 90 MW
  • SRP San Roque Hydroelectric Power Plant Units 1 and 3 derated to 56 MW from 290 MW.
