PNP proposes P14.8-B in infrastructure projects
The Philippine National Police (PNP) sent its proposal for P14.8 billion worth of infrastructure projects, part of the PNP's modernization effort, to the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The PNP said that the proposed P14,843,473,726.47 would be allotted to priority infrastructure projects in all 17 Police Regional Offices nationwide.
According to PNP Director for Logistics Police Major General Edwin Roque, the proposed infrastructure projects included the construction or improvement of police stations, combat simulation facilities, firing ranges, additional office buildings for provincial police offices, city police office and provincial mobile force company barracks, quarters and dormitories, additional national headquarters and regional headquarters buildings, as well as regional National Support Unit buildings.
There were 117 such projects in Luzon worth P11.018 billion, 70 projects in the Visayas worth P1.96 billion, and 104 projects in Mindanao worth P1.85 billion.
Roque said that the required documents had been submitted to the DPWH for final validation in the 2020 Prioritization Program.
A P267.89 million DPWH-funded project, the construction of a five-stoy multi-purpose carpark, was currently underway at Camp Crame.
According to PNP chief Police General Oscar Albayalde, all their proposed projects were designed to enhance the effectiveness and productivity of the police force
DPWH Undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnership Dr. Maria Catalina Cabral meanwhile acknowledged that there was an urgent need for the proposed PNP infrastructures.
While Cabral vowed to continue supporting the PNP modernization program, she also took the opportunity to ask the PNP for help in protecting DPWH projects in the countryside. — Anna Felicia Bajo/DVM, GMA News
