6 inmates flee Cebu prison; 1 recaptured
Six inmates at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center in Cebu City have bolted their prison cells, triggering a city-wide manhunt for the fugitives, GMANews.TV learned Friday. Local authorities have recaptured one of the escapees as of press time. Cebu police have set up checkpoints at various thoroughfares around the city for possible sightings of the inmates. Last May 2, six inmates bolted detention at the Jolo municipal police station before dawn while the guards were reportedly asleep. Four days later, a riot erupted between rival gang members at the Metro Manila Rehabilitation Center in Bicutan, injuring at least 11 inmates including four suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf bandit group. Earlier this week, an inmate allegedly ran amok hammered his cellmate to death with a piece of wood at the San Juan municipal jail. The assailant was later killed by other prisoners who ganged up on him.-GMANews.TV
