3-year-old Myca Ulpina laid to rest
Kateleen Myca Ulpina, the three-year-old girl who was shot dead during a police operation in late June, was laid to rest on Tuesday.
In a Balitangali report by Dano Tingcungco, Myca's family appealed for justice during the funeral at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Rodriguez, Rizal.
"Hindi po collateral damage ang anak ko, 'yun lang," Myca's mother also said upon leaving the cemetery.
Myca was killed on June 29 during a buy-bust operation by Rodriguez police that supposedly targeted her father, Renato Dolofrina.
In response to her death, neophyte senator and former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa said that "shit happens" during police operations. He later apologized for his wording.
The PNP has said it is looking into the death, even though it maintained that the child was used as a "human shield" by the suspect, which Myca's mother denied.
At the funeral, Myca's mother wept as holy water was sprinkled on her daughter's casket. She could not say at the moment what steps the family might take next, which could include filing charges against the Rodriguez police.
She also said they will not be seeking assistance from them, even though some of the municipality police were at the funeral offering aid to the attendees.
