Unusually high level of floodwater causes panic in Malabon

Chest-high floodwaters hit a village in Malabon City Monday night, submerging vehicles and houses – and causing many residents to panic. In a radio interview, Reynaldo Alejandro, chairman of Brgy. Tañong, said residents panicked with the unusual level reached by floodwaters. He said that while the area was prone to flooding during high tide and during rains, the waters were "unusually high" Monday night. In fact, even portions of C-4 road that was usually unaffected by floods were submerged. "Nag-panic ang mga tao kasi ang mga bahay, sasakyan, mga tricycle lubog (Local residents here panicked because the houses, vehicles and even tricycles were submerged)," Alejandro said in an interview on dzBB radio Tuesday morning. Alejandro said the floodwaters reached more than five feet high. "Kung 5'5" ka, aabot sa dibdib mo (If you are 5'5" tall, the floodwaters will reach up to your chest)," he said. As of Tuesday morning, Alejandro said the waters had subsided, but the dzBB report said floods in areas near the village were still knee-high. - GMANews.TV
