‘Bikoy’ surrenders to PNP-CIDG over cyberlibel case

Peter Joemel Advincula, the man who claims to be the hooded narrator of the anti-Duterte series "And Totoong Narcolist", surrendered to police on Monday night over a warrant of arrest for cyberlibel case.

This was confirmed to GMA News Online by Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) chief Major General Amador Corpuz.

CIDG-NCR chief Colonel Arnold Thomas Ibay said Advincula surrendered to the police at around 7 p.m.

Ibay said the warrant of arrest against Advincula was issued by the Legazpi City Regional Trial Court Branch 5.

PNP chief Police General Oscar Albayalde said Advincula is being booked at the CIDG-NCR office as of posting time.

P1-B cyberlibel suit

Advincula and several others were the subject of a P1-billion cyberlibel suit Bicolano businessman Elizaldy Co filed in connection with the "Ang Totoong Narcolist" videos which linked members of the Duterte family to illegal drugs.

Co and Misibis Resort and Hotel Management, Inc., where he is a shareholder, accused Facebook and Google (YouTube's owner), Advincula, and Rodel Jayme of cyber libel in relation to Article 353, 354, and 355 of the Revised Penal Code.

He alleged that in one of the videos, "Bikoy" linked him and his company to "an alleged drug syndicate supposedly operating in the Bicol and Visayas region" -- a "false" and "malicious" accusation that he said has maligned his good name and business reputation.

The businessman claimed that some banks and financial institutions have "raised questions" on his credit worthiness, with one suspending the processing of his loan application and others asking him to explain as a result of the allegations.

"The truth is finally out. By his own admission, 'Bikoy' said everything in the viral videos series that implicates me, Misibis Bay Resort and other personalities in the illegal drug trade are pure fabrication," Co said in a statement in May after Advincula said that the allegations in series of videos were all made up.

"Like 'Bikoy,' Facebook and YouTube must be held accountable. Our legal system shouldn't allow them to be part of a systematic campaign to destroy people and simply get away with it," he added. —NB, GMA News
