Sanchez daughter denies shabu was found inside dad's cell in 2010
The daughter of convicted rapist-murderer Antonio Sanchez on Tuesday denied that a kilo of shabu was found inside the jail cell of her father in 2010.
At the resumption of the Senate hearing on the controversial Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law, Councilor Ave Marie Tonee Sanchez-Alcid of Calauan, Laguna presented the affidavits of former Bureau of Corrections director general Oscar Calderon and former New Bilibid Prison superintendent Armando Miranda that say no illegal drug was found in her father's cell.
"'Yung sinasabi na nung 2010 si Mayor Sanchez nahulihan ng 1 kilong shabu, ito ang affidavit ni then-Undersecretary Oscar Calderon and then-Superintendent Armando Miranda na wala pong nakuhang isang kilo ng shabu noon," Sanchez-Alcid said during the hearing.
"Tinanong nila, inimbestigahan nila, wala pong ganung pangyayari, walang searching, wala pong nakuhang isang kilong shabu sa selda ng aking ama."
It has been widely reported that in July 2010, Sanchez — a former Calauan mayor convicted for the 1993 rape and murder of student Eileen Sarmenta and for the murder of her friend Allan Gomez — was caught with P1.5 million worth of shabu hidden in a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary inside his cell.
Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the blue ribbon and justice committees conducting the investigation, did not accept the affidavits as they were not notarized.
"Hindi notarized ang affidavit n'yo, kailangan under oath 'yan," said Gordon, a lawyer.
BuCor director general Nicanor Faeldon, who was present at the hearing, said he will look into their records.
Sanchez-Alcid also denied that her father attended a party while incarcerated at the New Bilibid Prison as shown in a viral photo.
"Ako po iyang nasa larawan at 'yan po ay kuha nang naospital ang aking ama sa Ospital ng Muntinlupa. Hindi po 'yan kuha sa loob gaya ng sinasabi nila. Fake news po na my father attended a birthday party pero ang totoo po ay nasa ospital siya," she said.
The hearing was conducted amid reports that Sanchez, who was convicted in 1995, is eligible for early release from prison on the basis of the GCTA law. —KBK, GMA News
