Andanar orders special probe into shooting of Davao Norte broadcaster

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar on Saturday said he has ordered a special investigation in the shooting of Davao del Norte-based broadcaster and public information officer Pat Lucero Pacquiao, as he expressed his condemnation of the incident.

"We are enjoining the authorities in Davao del Norte to closely investigate the shooting of broadcaster and provincial public information officer Pat Lucero Pacquiao last October 11 and to quickly look for the suspects who committed the crime," Andanar said in a statement.

"The PCOO condemns any act that threatens the well-being of media practitioners simply for doing their job of informing the public. Our office is dedicated to creating an environment that fosters press freedom and where the media can work free of harm," he added, as he hoped for Pacquiao's swift recovery.

"As co-chair of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, I have ordered a special investigation to build a solid case, and eventually attain justice for Mr. Pacquiao," Andanar said.

Pacquiao was about to enter the gate of his house when he was shot from behind by unidentified assailants, hitting his right shoulder.

He said the incident was caught on CCTV and is now being investigated by the police. —Jamil Santos/LBG, GMA News
