DPWH to build gender-neutral toilets dep’t offices, infra projects
The Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday vowed to "take the lead" in the construction of gender-neutral toilets, starting with DPWH buildings and public infrastructure projects.
According to a post on the DPWH's Facebook page, the decision is aligned to the Department's efforts to promote gender equality through mainstream projects.
DPWH Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral issued a memorandum directing all regional and district engineering officers to facilitate the construction, the post added.
“It is only fitting that the department follows through with its gender and development (GAD) initiatives to contribute in the promotion of gender emancipation in the Philippines,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said.
According to DPWH, the “Toolkit for Making Road Infrastructure Projects Gender Responsive” is incorporated into the execution of all projects.
The Commission on Women granted DPWH the GADtimpala 2018 Bronze Award for their efforts.
Cabral, DPWH Gender and Development Focal Point System Chairperson, said that the recognition will further inspire the agency to promote and strengthen gender equality as well as develop other gender responsive projects. —Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
