Larry Gadon ‘voluntarily’ starts serving 3-month suspension

Lawyer Lorenzo "Larry" Gadon, a defeated senatorial candidate, told the Supreme Court (SC) he will "voluntarily" start serving a three-month suspension on Thursday.

The SC suspended Gadon last June for "arrogant, malicious, and insulting" language against a fellow lawyer and his client in 2009, which the tribunal found violated ethics of the legal profession.

When news of the suspension came out, Gadon said it was not yet implemented because he has not received a copy of the notice of suspension.

In his Thursday letter to Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, a photo of which he sent to media, Gadon said he "respects" the court order and "hereby abides with the suspension despite non-receipt of the official notice."

He told reporters in a message that he himself had to secure a copy of the notice after learning it was sent to the wrong address.

He also apologized to the SC "for whatever demeanor that I have committed leading to the suspension."

He said he will serve the suspension from October 24, 2019 to January 25, 2020. "This is to take advantage of the forthcoming holiday season when there is almost no work to be done," he told reporters.

Gadon was the lawyer who filed an impeachment complaint against former chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, who was ousted last year not due to the impeachment suit but by an unprecedented action taken by the SC itself.

He became infamous for calling Sereno supporters stupid ("bobo") during a rally in Baguio City last year.

Gadon is also lawyer for Peter Joemel Advincula alias Bikoy, Guillermina Barrido, and Perfecto Tagalog, three personalities who have surfaced with claims against opposition figures. — MDM, GMA News
