Sinas to Metro Manila cops: Expect surprise drug test
If the former chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) ran after cops who slept on their duty at night, the acting top cop of Metro Manila said he would conduct drug test during his surprise inspections.
"My style pag mag-inspection ako, [kung] sino ang duty punta kayo dito, usap anong problema and drug test... pag di nagpakita AWOL ka. Ito kasi is preventive, hindi nila alam kailan ako dadalaw," Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas said at a press briefing.
“Kung ano ang nasa listahan, hindi kayo lalabas hangga't hindi tapos ang drug test. Sabi ko pag nandoon tayo, pati sa loob ng CR may tao... pag mag-inspection ako sa istasyon," he added.
This came after a police recruit at the Manila Police District (MPD) was found to have tested positive for using marijuana last October 21. Sinas identified him as Patrolman Darwin Resurrecion.
"This is the 2nd district na kinuhaan ko ang police trainee... kaya ngayon pa lang, bawat ikot ko, naka-schedule na ako para hindi nila alam kung kailan," Sinas said.
The acting Metro Manila top cop said Resurrecion could be terminated.
"Dinirect ko na po ang MPD to issue return to unit dito sa recuit para maundergo niya ang termination process," Sinas said.
Sinas' predecessor, Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar, was known for conducting surprise inspections at night to catch policemen who were sleeping while on duty.
