NBI to review The Pen CCTV footage of Thursday's standoff - DOJ
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez on Tuesday said he wants the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to review The Peninsula Manila Hotelâs closed-circuit (CCTV) footage during Thursdayâs standoff. In an interview on dzRH radio, Gonzales said this is to determine the possible involvement of other personalities in last week's standoff. He said the footage will be checked for "prominent personalities" who welcomed the group of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV upon their arrival there. Trillanes and Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim proceeded to the hotel after walking out of a court hearing in Makati City last November 29. They surrendered after more than six hours, following a military assault on the hotel. Gonzalez also said he has ordered the NBI to conduct background checks on suspected financiers and businessmen behind last week's standoff. He cited information that some businessmen offered P200 each to residents of Parola in Tondo, Manila and Dagat-Dagatan in Malabon City to "mobilize" and join Trillanes. Earlier, Philippine National Police head Dir. Gen. Avelino Razon Jr said police are now checking the registry of the hotel to see if Trillanes' "supporters" may have checked in there before the November 29 incident. - GMANews.TV
