QUIEL AFTERMATH

Over 900 families still staying in evacuation centers — NDRRMC

After taking six lives and exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday, typhoon Quiel left more than 900 families taking refuge in evacuation centers, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday.

Thirty-nine evacuation centers remain open in the regions of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera.

NDRRMC said that four of the six fatalities were from Cagayan province—two died due to drowning, one was electrocuted, while the other died when his house collapsed during a landslide.

Two others died in Apayao province due to landslide.

According to a report by GMA News stringer Ville Visaya on Unang Balita on Monday, the floods in Isabela province has already subsided.

However, some bridges were temporarily closed for road clearing—those in Cabisera Otso and Baculod in Ilagan City, as well as in Barangay Alicaocao of Cauayan City.

Meanwhile, Engineer Carlo Ablan of the National Irrigation Administration slammed some fake news circulating on social media which claim that water released from Magat Dam caused the flooding in nearby areas.

All the floodgates are closed, according to Ablan.

The 190.94-water level in Magat Dam is still below its spilling level of 193 meters, as of 7 p.m. on Sunday. — RSJ, GMA News
