Bato says he will save the youth from leftist groups

Senator Ronald dela Rosa rallied his colleagues on Monday to join him in his crusade to save the youth from leftist groups as he presented to the plenary the committee report on the “missing” students.

“Think of your own children, nephews and nieces, or even the ordinary children you see on the streets, who are all potential victims of recruitment by these revolutionary organizations and their leaders,” Dela Rosa, a former Philippine National Police chief, said in his sponsorship speech.

He said the youth should be saved “from the snares of the duplicitous and deceptive leftist groups who use our youth for violent ends.”

“Yes, we share our children to the world for them to explore what lies beyond the corners of our homes and schools.  But we always provide protective shields for them so that they will not to be taken advantage of, and have their own freedom snatched away from them,” he said.

The Committee Report No. 10 by the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, chaired by Dela Rosa, and National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation, chaired by Senator Panfilo Lacson, was released following an inquiry into the missing minors who were allegedly enticed by leftist organizations into joining the New Peoples Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

The report recommended, among others:

  • Increased/intensified interal security enforcement in schools
  • Police visibility around the within campus premises
  •  Strict regulations on issuance of IDs
  •  Study possible liability of school administration and teachers
  •  Allow the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National       Police to conduct lectures to students and parents, and career   orientation on the law enforcement sector
  •  Regular review of academic curriculum / modules, and monitoring and   evaluation of school activities:
  •   Filing of charges, when there is evidence, against the leftist leaders
  •   Investigation of allegations against teachers.
