Lacson wants GMRC one of core subjects from kinder to Grade 3

Senator Panfilo Lacson has filed a bill seeking to make good manners and right conduct (GMRC) a core subject in the Philippine education system from the kindergarten to the third-grade levels.

In a statement over the weekend, Lacson pointed out the need to reinstate the GMRC subject given the impact of modern technology on social skills and manners of the youth.

"In order to create a balance, it is necessary for our educational system to aid the Filipino family in imparting good manners and right conduct to our young students by its inclusion in the curriculum at the beginning of their school years," said Lacson.

Lacson has filed Senate Bill 1185 or the "Good Manners and Right Conduct Act of 2019," similar to bills earlier filed by Senators Sherwin Gatchalian, and Joel Villanueva.

"The GMRC shall inculcate among the students the concepts of human dignity, respect for oneself, and giving oneself to others in the spirit of community, for the effective and holistic development of the decision-making skills of the child," the Bill read.

The curriculum will center on the "basic tenets" of goon manners and right conduct such as self-care, concern for others, respect, discipline and order, sincerity, honesty, obedience, and patriotism.

"The teaching method shall be actual or situational, rather than conceptual, thereby allowing the studentry to directly relate to the lessons, readily incorporate them in practice, and make such behavior commonplace," the Bill explained. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/LBG, GMA News
