SWS: Over 90% of Pinoys proud when PHL does well at international sports
The Social Weather Station (SWS) discovered that 96 % of Filipinos are proud when the country fares well in international sports competitions, according to its Third Quarter 2019 Survey conducted in September.
According to the survey, 74 % of Filipinos described themselves as "very proud" while 19 % described themselves as "proud." Only 3% do not feel proud (2% not very proud and 1% not proud at all).
The survey also found out that there were more Filipinos who now felt Pinoy pride when the country did well in sports competitions, compared to the results in 2008.
"In 2008, there were 74% who were very proud and 19% somewhat proud, for a total of 93% who were proud of the country’s achievements in international sports. Those who feel very proud increased by five points, from 74% in 2008 to 79% in 2019," the survey said.
Four out of five adults in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon considered themselves as "very proud" of their country's international sports achievements. This figure is slightly higher than the results from Visayas (77 %) and Mindanao (72 %).
"The percentages of those who are proud of the Philippines’ achievements in international sports are high and hardly vary in all areas and across socio-demographic groups," the survey said.
The survey was conducted from September 27-30, 2019 using face-to-face interviews of 1,800 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide: 600 each in Balance Luzon and Mindanao, and 300 each in Metro Manila and the Visayas (sampling error margins of ±2.3% for national percentages, ±4% each for Balance Luzon and Mindanao, and ±6% each for Metro Manila and the Visayas).
The survey was non-commissioned.
According to data from the International Social Survey Program's survey modules on national identity, achievements in sports was ranked as the top source of Pinoy pride, along with achievements in arts and literature.
