Supreme Court upholds conviction of Jason Ivler
The Supreme Court has upheld the conviction for murder of Jason Ivler, who shot and killed the son of a former Palace official during a traffic altercation in 2009.
In a resolution, the high tribunal affirmed the Court of Appeals ruling which affirmed conviction of of killing Renato Ebarle Jr. and his imprisonment of up to 40 years.
The high court awarded the damages due to the heirs of the victim to almost P10 million.
These include P9,124,206 as compensation for loss of earning capacity; P616,590 for actual damages; P75,000 as civil indemnity; P75,000 as moral damages; and P75,000 as exemplary damages.
All monetary awards shall earn an interest at the legal rate of six percent per annum from the date of the finality of the resolution until they are paid in full.
The CA 14th Division in Decembver 2017 upheld the guilty verdict handed down by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Luisito Cortez on November 24, 2015.

Ivler, nephew of singer Freddie Aguilar, shot Ebarle Jr. dead over a traffic altercation in Quezon City on November 18, 2009.
After the shooting, witnesses said Ivler sped off from the crime scene in a Honda CR-V which later turned out to be owned by his stepfather, British diplomat Stephen James Pollard.
Ivler was arrested on Jan. 18, 2010 following a shootout with agents of the National Bureau of Investigation at the residence of his mother, Marlene Aguilar, in Quezon City. —NB, GMA News
