Federation of Free Workers welcome resumption of GPH-NDF peace talks
The labor group Federation of Free Workers (FFW) on Monday expressed its support for the resumption of peace talks and the holiday ceasefire between the national government and rebel groups.
In a statement, FFW president Sonny Matula said the government’s peace initiatives are in accordance with the spirit of the Christmas season.
“The FFW reiterates its untiring support for the peace initiatives of the government with the Communist-led National Democratic Front and calls on our government to include trade unions, faith-based groups and basic sectors to be part of the peace panel or as active observers consulted along the way,” he said.
“Some of our leaders manifested their weariness, tiredness or that they are already exhausted to walk the extra mile for peace. But we can't continue killing each other,” Matula added.
The national government and Communist Party of the Philippines on Sunday both declared a ceasefire from December 23, 2019 until January 7, 2020.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, the government’s chief negotiator with rebel groups, earlier announced the possible resumption of peace talks in January. —NB, GMA News
