AFP: Rizal an epitome of military's core values of honor, service, patriotism
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Rizal Day paid tribute to national hero Jose Rizal, saying that he was the epitome of the military's core values of honor, service and patriotism.
"He exudes the leadership principles of a Filipino trooper. He labored tirelessly to improve himself personally and professionally. He led by example," AFP spokesman Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo said in a statement on Monday.
"Every soldier, airman, sailor, and marine of the AFP emulates Dr. Rizal’s selfless devotion to duty to country and people — offering the ultimate sacrifice like he did 123 years ago in Bagumbayan when duty demands it," he added.
Arevalo said Rizal had always been looking out for the Filipino's welfare.
"He sought responsibility in the fight for nationalism and took responsibility and paid dearly for his heroic actions," Arevalo said.
The Philippine National Police, for its part, said Rizal's sacrifices have served as an inspiration to all cops in the performance of their duties for all Filipinos.
