Oil spills from village drainage in Muntinlupa City

An undetermined volume of oil spilled from a waste water drainage system in Villa Carolina I subdivision in Tunasan, Muntinlupa City, Tom Landrito, chief of the city's Lake Management Office told radio dzBB on Sunday. DzBB said the spill, which emitted a foul smell, gushed into the area's creek, along the boundary of Muntinlupa and San Pedro town in Laguna province. Landrito told dzBB that the spill could have come from the waste water released by several factories in San Pedro. He said his office "is now implementing measures" to prevent the spill from reaching Laguna Lake. He said his office received a complaint about 8:30 a.m., Sunday that used oil was being flushed out from the drainage to the creek. Landrito said his office asked assistance from the Pollution Control Division of the Laguna Lake Development Authority to control the spill. He said Coast Guard personnel also arrived in the area to help in cleaning up the spill. He said it was the second time that used oil was dumped into the creek. The first incident was reported to Landrito's office on November 22. - AMITA LEGASPI, GMANews.TV
