Duterte appoints CA Justice Samuel Gaerlan to SC

President Rodrigo Duterte has promoted Court of Appeals Justice Samuel Gaerlan to the Supreme Court, Malacañang said Wednesday.

Duterte’s spokesperson Salvador Panelo confirmed to reporters the appointment of Gaerlan, who filled in the post vacated by now Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta.

A former trial court judge, Gaerlan holds a law degree from San Beda University, the alma mater of the President.

Gaerlan beat out five other shortlisted applicants for the SC post, namely, Court Administrator Midas Marquez and CA magistrates Manuel Barrios, Ramon Garcia, Jhosep Lopez and Eduardo Peralta. — BM, GMA News
