Leni brands commentary on Vice President’s mansion ‘fake news’

Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday branded as "fake news" an opinion piece which said she lived in a mansion.

The commentary which appeared in one of the country's broadsheets said she was living in a mansion which the government rented for P1 million a month.

“[This is] fake news. Quezon City Reception House serves as our office, not my residence," Robredo said in a statement.

"Our monthly rent is not P1 million, but only half of what OVP used to pay for rent at Coconut Palace,” she added.

Former Vice President Jejomar Binay held office at the Coconut Palace in Pasay City. The rent was pegged at P484,000 per month.

Robredo denied that her security personnel had a separate mansion for themselves.

“Let's report these fake news peddlers,” Robredo said.

The Quezon City Reception House at No. 100 11th Street, New Manila, Quezon City was the Boracay Mansion, which drew attention during the latter days of the administration of former President Joseph Estrada.

The property was dubbed as the Boracay Mansion because it used to have a swimming pool surrounded by a sand from the world famous Boracay Island in Aklan.

The property was seized by the Quezon City government after real estate taxes weren't paid on the property.

It has since been turned it into a reception house before the Quezon City government agreed to rent it to Robredo to serve as the Vice President’s office in June 2016. —NB, GMA News
