Duterte pays last respects to Fr. Fernando Suarez
President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday paid his last respects to the late priest Fr. Fernando Suarez, who was known for conducting “healing” Masses in several parts of the country.
Duterte went to Suarez’s wake at The Heritage Park in Taguig City and condoled with the priest’s family.
“President Duterte extended his condolences to the bereaved family of Fr. Suarez saying he believes in the priest’s healing ministry. He noted that he personally witnessed Fr. Suarez’s healing prowess once in Davao City,” the Palace said in a press release.
Suarez succumbed to heart attack on Tuesday while playing tennis at the Ayala Alabang Clubhouse in Muntinlupa City. He was 52.
Suarez rose to prominence for spearheading faith healing in the country and for founding the Missionaries of Mary Mother of the Poor Congregation that has branches in Batangas, Cebu and Davao del Norte.
The remains of the late priest will be brought to his hometown in Batangas later Friday and will be interred on February 15. —Virgil Lopez/KBK, GMA News
