PNP regional directors given a week to curb illegal gambling
BAGUIO CITY - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa on Saturday said regional directors had a week to stop illegal gambling operations, such as jueteng, in their jurisdictions otherwise they would be relieved from their posts.
“To the concerned regional directors of the Philippine National Police, I have forwarded to you list of operators in your different regions. I’m giving you a week,” Gamboa said at a press conference. “If you will not stop, then I will relieve you,”
Last Wednesday, Gamboa revealed that regional directors had been provided with the list of illegal gambling operators in their respective areas.
Gamboa had warned that local police chiefs that they faced consequences if they failed to cleanse their areas of illegal gambling operations.
The PNP chief also reminded police officers not to take bribes from illegal gambling operators.
Aside from eradicating illegal drugs, curbing illegal gambling operations was one of Gamboa's priorities.
Gamboa said a one-strike policy would be applied to all police unit commanders who failed to halt illegal activities such as gambling. — DVM, GMA News
