Panagbenga Festival to push through, says Magalong
Baguio City’s annual Panagbenga or Flower Festival will push through after it was postponed over concerns about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Mayor Benjamin Magalong has said.
Magalong explained that the festival was initially postponed due to fears over COVID-19 because they did not have much knowledge about the virus at the time, according to a Tuesday report on Unang Hirit by Darlene Cay.
As more and more persons under investigation for COVID-19 infection were discharged, however, the Baguio City Government decided to push through with the festival.
“Meron naman tayong mga measures to make sure that we will strongly implement and execute our, itong mga measures natin, mechanisms, para hindi naman tayo ma-expose, ma-mitigate natin ang risk of getting exposed sa virus na ‘to,” Magalong said.
The grand opening parade is scheduled for March 21, while the closing ceremony with a fireworks display will be on April 5.
A school-based landscaping competition will take place from March 4 to 6 as part of the festivities. — Julia Mari Ornedo/MDM, GMA News
