Makati Med on Koko Pimentel's apology: Noted

The Makati Medical Center (MMC)  has taken note of the apology of Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III for breaching COVID-19 quarantine protocols to be with his wife at the hospital as she was due to give birth.

Pimentel learned that he tested positive for the coronavirus disease while he was at the MMC, even though he was mandated by protocol to be in isolation at home.

The senator apologized to the hospital but maintained that he “never intended to breach any protocol.

“We hereby take note of the apology of Senator Pimentel for such breach,” MMC Medical Director Saturnino Javier said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We are pleased that the Department of Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III has concurred that, indeed, breach was committed,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, the health chief agreed that Pimentel’s hospital visit was a breach of protocol and vowed to coordinate with other agencies in addressing the matter.

The MMC also thanked the public for the “outpouring of support” in denouncing the actions of Pimentel.

“Let us all move forward and I urge the MMC community to focus our energies, skills and passion once again toward conquering the virulent pathogen confronting us — COVID-19,” Javier said. -NB, GMA News
