Año says gov't to discuss if some sports will be allowed in GCQ areas

Government officials will discuss if some sports activities will be allowed in areas which will be placed under general community quarantine, according to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Thursday.

"'Yung mga sports na may physical distancing, naoobserve siya, so sa susunod na paguusap namin, 'yan naman 'yung tatalakayin namin na pagdating ng GCQ may iaallow na tayong sports," Año said in a radio interview.

"Kasama din naman 'yan sa advisory ng Department of Health, 'yung pageexercise para makatulong sa pagiwas na madapuan ng COVID..." he added.

Starting May 1, areas in the country with low and moderate risk of coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic will be placed under GCQ while those high risk areas will remain under the enhanced community quarantine until May 15.

The national government earlier said gyms, fitness studios, and other sports facilities will remain prohibited both in ECQ and GCQ.

Año said essential work and religious gatherings would be allowed provided that social distancing and wearing of face masks will properly be observed. —LDF, GMA News
