The Senate on Monday offered its condolences to the loved ones of award-winning film director Peque Gallaga who recently passed away at the age of 76.
Best known for his 1982 film "Oro Plata Mata," Gallaga's great contributions to the Philippine cinema was recognized by the senators by adopting P.S. Resolution No. 398.
"It’s a great loss for the film industry for he was an incredible man with so much ideas. He was a visionary and many of his films became favorites of the public," Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said during the plenary session.
He added that Gallaga also harnessed the talents of many artists in the industry.
Senator Imee Marcos, who worked with Gallaga as an executive director of Oro Plata Mata, also paid tribute to the filmmaker.
"We mourn his loss as well as we celebrate his legacy," she said.
Gallaga's award-winning works include "Scorpio Nights," "Magic Temple," the "Shake, Rattle and Roll" films, and "Magic Kingdom."
He passed away last Thursday morning at a hospital in Bacolod City a day after his family confirmed that he was confined due to "complications arising from past health conditions." — DVM, GMA News
