Tricycle ban on national roads stays —Palace
Malacañang on Thursday retracted its previous announcement that tricycles and pedicabs will be allowed to pass through national roads.
In a statement, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the ban on tricycles, pedicabs and motorized pedicabs on national highways remains.
“Regarding the issue on tricycles/those similarly situated, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año clarifies that although apprehension from the Highway Patrol Group is temporarily suspended, such are still prohibited from traversing the national highways,” he said.
Hours earlier, Roque said in a televised briefing that sidecars will be allowed on national roads to address the shortage of public transport services due to the community quarantines aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.
He also said motorcycle backrides, even for married couples, are still prohibited because it violates the rule on physical distancing. —LDF, GMA News
